Campaigners Call For Moore Street To Be Preserved

A campaign has taken place for Moore Street in Dublin to be preserved.

Sinn Féin held a vigil to highlight its proposals for the preservation of Moore Street.

The campaigners will launch a broad-based campaign in January aimed at urging the government to retain and conserve Moore Street and its environs.

Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha said: "The City Council majority, led by Sinn Féin, quite rightly rejected the proposal from Council management to do a deal with a developer which would have resulted in the demolition of most of the historic Moore St terrace which was occupied by the Volunteers at the end of Easter Week.


"The National Monument 14-17 Moore St and the rest of the terrace remain in place and the campaign's immediate task is to ensure that they remain intact until a new plan is put in place and implemented.

"Heritage Minister Heather Humphreys who met with the Council's Moore Street Advisory Committee this week needs to take responsibility. She needs to bring together all stakeholders to put in place a new plan to replace the proposed giant shopping centre that no-one wants except a NAMA developer."
