Rise In Demand For Bungalows For Older And Disabled People

There is an increase in demand for new bungalows for older and disabled people in Northern Ireland, according to the SDLP.

Pat Ramsey MLA said he had already outlined the case to the Minister for Social Development.

Mr Ramsey said: "Local housing lists have increased by some 30% in four years, despite the welcome completion of developments at Skeoge Road of almost 300 homes. The situation has deteriorated.


"Applicants remain on stagnant lists over a number of years as the level of new build homes has been outpaced by increased demands on the social housing sector.

"If we are to avoid exacerbating what is already a housing crisis the Minister must ensure that action is taken soon to deliver on his stated aim of doubling social housing provision over the next three years with the additional building of bungalows remaining a priority going forward."
