Roscommon South Leitrim by-election candidate Martin Kenny there has been huge community concern in Leitrim, Fermanagh and neighbouring counties regarding the health implications of fracking, as well as the impact it would have on the tourism and farming sectors which are vital in the area.

Mr Kenny said: "With Tamboran threatening to legally challenge the decision by Minister Arlene Foster not to extend the licence this is a fight that is not over yet. I commend all those in the community who have stood up against the might of this multinational company and reiterate that Sinn Féin is committed to working for a ban on fracking.
"In the Dáil my colleague Sinn Féin TD Micheal Colreavy tabled the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development (Amendment) Bill 2013 which includes a ban on fracking. Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams had previously made it clear Sinn Féin would use our position within the Northern Executive to oppose fracking."
