Strabane Road Works Deferred

Road works due to take place in Strabane this weekend have been deferred.

The works would have caused traffic chaos for Donegal supporters travelling to Dublin from the North West

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan said: "As soon as I became aware of the GAA concerns for supporters' journeys I contacted the Minister for Regional Development Danny Kennedy.


"I stressed that the scheduled road works on the Great Northern Link in Strabane would cause untold disruption to supporters, and that the planned diversion routes would not easily accommodate the volume of traffic that All-Ireland Sunday would bring.

"In fairness, the Minister's office quickly took the point about the disproportionate impact of the proposed closure for works on this key artery on this of all occasions.

"I want to thank the Minister and his officials who came back quickly to say that the work will now be deferred."
