The Mayor said: "Taking part in the Green Schools Programme involves a lot of hard work, you should all be very proud and enjoy this day celebrating the raising of your 1st green flag. To reduce the number of bags going to landfill by 50% is a fantastic achievement."

The principal, Edward Kelly was, proud of the school's achievement. Solas Chríost NS carries out spot checks on the bins in each class to make sure the correct bins are being used. They also have litter monitors who scan the yard on a regular basis for litter.
Solas Chríost National School is one of eight schools in South Dublin County who received their 1st green flag under this programme and join 94 other schools, all of whom proudly fly the green flag for protecting the environment.
