Fuel Poverty Needs To Be Urgently Addressed - McMullun

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the latest report from the Pensioners Parliament that old people are still sacrificing essentials like food to heat their homes makes grim reading.

Mr McMullan said: "A report launched on the last day of the Pensioners Parliament makes grim reading. Over 50% of pensioners are still having to cut back on essentials to pay for heating.


"The report also highlights the fact that pensioners in the North are more like to rely on using oil as cheaper alternatives such as gas are not available in all areas.

"I am also concerned that pensioners here who rely on oil are paying on average over £400 per year more that than those pensioners in Britain. This is a huge financial burden.

"Pensioners in Britain and the rest of Ireland are also entitled to an allowance towards their electricity bills while that allowance is not available here."
