Art Advisors Appointed For Bank Square Regeneration Project

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced the appointment of King Street Arts as art advisors for the Bank Square Regeneration Project in Belfast City Centre.

Over the coming months, the group will work to develop a suitable theme for an art trail, comprising a number of individual art pieces, which will be installed on a wall adjacent to Bank Square. The art trail will be a main focal point for the Bank Square public realm scheme, which is currently under construction.

Minister McCausland said: "I am keen to get buy in from all the people of Belfast and would encourage full participation in any ongoing discussions about the artwork for this city centre square. This will help ensure that the public art created fully reflects the development of the Bank Square area as a 'shared space' for all and gives the public some ownership of the completed project.

"Once completed the art pieces will capitalise on the unique location of Bank Square in Belfast City Centre and open up a pleasant public space for shoppers and workers alike. The artworks will capture Bank Square's unique character and rich history in Belfast and will be the final touch to the current redevelopment public realm works.

"The proposed art works will create an attractive art trail between Bank Square and Berry Street (east) and along with the £3 million public realms works underway, will transform this neglected city centre area.

"The enhanced environment will attract increased footfall and consumer spend to the area and, most importantly, the perception of the area as a shared space for all sections of the community will also be transformed."
