The Laganbank councillor said: "This is great news for the entire area and will benefit young and old for generations to come.
"The initiative will see a partnership being formed between Belfast City Council, the Ulster Council of the GAA, local rugby, soccer, and GAA clubs to redevelop the existing facility. It will include two new flood lit GAA pitches, one grass and the other 3G, and a replacement rugby pitch and soccer facilities

"Not only will the thousands of people who are members of the local sports clubs benefit from this state of the art development but also the hundreds of school children attending the neighbouring St Joseph’s College which will be granted day time access ensuring minimal down time for the facility.
"The redevelopment will also include the upgrading of the popular walking trail and further safety enhancements to the play park.
"The proposal now goes to planning where the three main sporting codes, GAA, rugby and soccer have agreed to continue to work with planners and local residents groups to ensure any issues around light pollution, traffic congestion etc are dealt with to the satisfaction of all."
