Irish energy supplier Vayu has signed arenewable electricity supply deal with UPC, Ireland's leading TV, broadband and communications innovator. Under the three-year agreement, Vayu will provide UPC with 100% green electricity to meet the year-round requirements for its 96 metered sites across Ireland.
The deal will provide UPC with direct access to wholesale market prices for electricity, allowing the company to achieve significant savings compared with traditional fixed rate tariffs in the market. As part of a fully managed agreement, Vayu will provide UPC with the procurement tools and advice to purchase energy at the best price available in the market.
Commenting on this new agreement, Owen O'Mahony, Facilities Manager for UPC Ireland said: "Last year we consumed over 10 million kWh in our metered sites. Our partnership with Vayu enables our electricity consumption across our facilities to be generated from 100% renewable sources. This is one of a number of measures taken in 2013 to reduce our carbon output. We’re very focussed as part of our overall corporate responsibility programme to play our role to minimise our impact on the environment.
"When deciding on our energy provider we were looking for an organisation that shared our desire to reduce our energy consumption and carbon output. Vayu has a broad spectrum of energy management expertise which we can tap in to. We view Vayu as being that key strategic partner. A three-year contract affords us continuity allowing us to take a longer term view on our energy reduction programmes and initiatives."
