Man Fined For Breaching Waste Management Legislation

Mr Frank McHenry, 56, of Torr Road, Ballycastle, was fined a total of £918 at Coleraine Magistrates' Court today for breaches of waste management legislation.

In June 2011, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency carried out a site inspection on lands off the Glenshesk Road, Ballycastle, where they found an estimated 160 tonnes of controlled waste including tarmac, concrete, kerbstone, plastic, metal, polystyrene and electrical cable.


Mr McHenry who owned the land at Glenshesk Road, pleaded guilty on 4 September to two charges of depositing controlled waste without there being in place an exemption or licence.

He was fined £500 and £418 respectively plus court costs of £82 and an offenders levy of £15.

At the same Court, two hauliers also pleaded guilty to depositing the waste on site. FP McCann Limited of 3 Drumard Road, Magherafelt, pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing controlled waste without there being in place an exemption or licence and was fined £500 plus court costs of £82 and an offenders levy of £15.

Cashel Haulage Limited of 7 Knockmore Crescent, Coleraine also pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing controlled waste without there being in place an exemption or licence and was fined £500 plus court costs of £82 and an offenders levy of £15.
