The contract signing has took place for work to begin on the development of a new Primary Care facility and Community Mental Health Centre in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim.
The new development will involve the refurbishment of the former North Western Health Board headquarters into a modern Primary Care Centre with all of the members of the Primary Care Team providing services from the centre. The new facility will also incorporate Community Mental Health Services for the local catchment area.
The Primary Care Centre will accommodate members of the North Leitrim Primary Care and Mental Health Teams, with GPs, Public Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Dental services relocating to the new centre. The unit will also have multi-disciplinary bookable rooms for visiting professionals, including Speech & Language Therapy, Dietetics, Psychology and Social Work. Physiotherapy services for the Primary Care Team will continue to be provided from Our Lady's Hospital. With the newly-constructed purpose built modern Primary Care Centre in Dromahair Primary Care, facilities in the team area will meet the needs of the population for the foreseeable future.
Damien Mc Callion, HSE Area Manager for Sligo/Leitrim and West Cavan, said: "This new primary care centre will bring together local GPs and members of primary care and community mental health teams. The centre will be a real resource for the local community and we welcome this exciting development."
Work commenced on the refurbishment the week ending 15 July, with an expected completion date of year end. It is anticipated that the Primary Care and Community Mental Health Team will move into the centre by the end of December 2013.
The successful tender for the project was submitted by Sammon Builders with a total Project Cost of €700k approximately.
