Hogan Criticised For Refusing To Use The Dormant Accounts Funs

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Community Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív TD, has again criticised the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan for his refusal to use the Dormant Accounts Fund for the purpose it was set up.

Dormant Account Funds are unclaimed funds from banks which are paid over to the Government for socially disadvantaged projects or projects for people with disabilities.


Deputy Ó Cuív commented: "At present there is €100 million of funding available for allocation to worthy projects around the country, but the Minister steadfastly refuses to make any of this funding available. Since this Government came to power over €70 million of Dormant Accounts Funding has been handed over to the Government and not one cent of this has been allocated for any projects to do with socio-economic disadvantage, education disadvantage or disabilities.

"This money could do a huge amount, at a time that money is very scarce, to ensure services for the most disadvantaged in our country."
