Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced funding of £60,000 for new festive lighting in Strabane town centre.
The funding will be matched by Strabane District Council and will be used to purchase and install new festive lighting in the town centre, which is expected to cost in the region of £120,000 in total.
Announcing the funding, Minister McCausland said: "The regeneration of Strabane continues at pace and partnership is a key driver. Strabane District Council, Strabane Town Forum and Strabane Chamber of Commerce have been working closely with the Executive to deliver a range of regeneration projects to enhance the town centre.
"The implementation of this new modern festive lighting scheme in Strabane for Christmas 2013 will significantly improve the appearance and ambiance of the area. It will boost the town at this important retail period making it a more attractive location for traders, visitors and local people alike. The new lighting will also complement existing public realm improvements and revitalisation schemes that my Department and Strabane District Council are taking forward."
The Minister also announced further funding for Strabane revitalisation. He said: "I can also confirm an award of £65,000 by the Executive through my Department to Strabane District Council to appoint consultants to design and implement a high quality public realm scheme in the town centre. This project, which is expected to cost in the region of £2million, will focus on Abercorn Square and the surrounding streets."
