€450,000 Awarded To Dunmore East Harbour

Fine Gael Waterford Deputy, Paudie Coffey, has welcomed news from the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, that an allocation of €450,000 has been awarded to Dunmore East Harbour under the 2013 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme.

Deputy Coffey said that this funding will allow for the slipway on the West Wharf at Dunmore East Harbour to be widened, therefore improving the facilities at the harbour.

Mr Coffey said: "This is a matter that I have been working closely with Minister Coveney and with residents from Dunmore East over the course of the last year. This upgrade will hopefully now enable Dunmore East to look at hosting national and international sailing events, which would be a huge boost for tourism and employment locally.

"Since this Government has come to office, almost €2 million has been allocated in capital funds for Dunmore East Harbour despite our on-going economic difficulties. This funding is a clear commitment from Government to Dunmore East, ensuring that it remains a top quality facility.

"I am aware that there is still the on-going matter of the dredging of the Harbour which, if carried out, would be of further economic benefit to the town of Dunmore East and I am continuing to work on this matter with Minister Coveney to examine if funding can be made available for this project over the coming period."
