Alliance MP Mrs Long said the bridge, which is being constructed in the park as part of the Connswater Community Greenway Project, would be the perfect way to commemorate the birth of His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, who was born on Monday.

The pedestrian and cycle bridge will provide a link between the East Belfast park to the Harbour Estate and Titanic Quarter, and is expected to be open by the end of 2013. Mrs Long has entered the name of the new baby as a suggestion to the Greenway Project and she said she hoped it would be part of the subsequent public vote, which is due to take place in September.
She said: "It would be quite fitting to have the bridge named after Prince George in a park that is named for Queen Victoria, his great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, thus continuing the royal connection in the park."
