Eirgrid Seeks Feedback On Interconnector

EirGrid is seeking feedback on a key new report on the proposed north south interconnector, a cross-border scheme that will improve the all-island electricity system.

The scheme links Woodland, County Meath with Turleenan in County Tyrone and will provide a second high-capacity electricity transmission line between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

It is being jointly proposed by EirGrid and Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE).

EirGrid will in due course apply for planning approval for the North South 400kV Interconnection Development, that part of the scheme located in Ireland.

NIE has already submitted an application for planning approval to the competent authority in Northern Ireland for the Tyrone – Cavan Interconnector, that part of the scheme located in Northern Ireland.

EirGrid has published a 'Preferred Project Solution Report' on the

North South 400kV Interconnection Development and is holding a series of open days in Meath, Cavan and Monaghan over the coming weeks.

The 'Preferred Project Solution Report' documents EirGrid's design process and provides detailed information on the proposed line route.

An eight-week public consultation on the report is underway from

Tuesday 16th July to Monday 9th September 2013.

This is the final formal consultation period prior to the submission of an application for planning approval to An Bord Pleanála.

Deborah Meghen, EirGrid regional manager, commented: "This is an important report, particularly for affected landowners, as it details the

proposed locations of the towers. We are fully committed to engaging with landowners, as well as members of the public and other interested parties."
