The work is at the Old Ballymena Road junction heading north for approximately 0.6kilometres.
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this very important trunk road."

To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses the majority of this work is programmed to be completed using lane closures.
A full closure of the Frosses Road will however, be in place between 8pm on 2 August through to 6am on 3 August 2013 to facilitate the final surfacing works. During this closure a signed traffic diversion via Boylan Road, Burnquarter Road, Garryduff Road and Kilraghts Road will be in operation for through traffic.
The scheme is expected to be substantially completed on 3 August 2013.
