2,000 NIHE Homes To Be Transferred To The Housing Association Movement

The Social Development Minister has announced proposals to transfer some 2,000 Housing Executive homes to the housing association movement.

The houses have been chosen as they require major improvement work and there is no certainty that finance will be available to fund the necessary work.

A spokesperson from the NIHE said: "We believe our tenants should be given the option whether their home is transferred into housing association ownership to make sure that improvements are made.


"We will be providing our tenants with full information on what transferring to a housing association - or remaining with the Housing Executive - would mean.

"We will also be providing them with an opportunity in a Tenant Ballot to vote 'for' or 'against' such a transfer proposal. The tenants involved will therefore decide whether their homes will be transferred to a housing association to have the improvements carried out.

"We will continue to consult with those tenants affected throughout the process."
