Building Of Narrow Water Bridge On Hold

Sinn Féin President and Louth TD Gerry Adams has welcomed the decision by Minister Kennedy to approve the Narrow Water Bridge order.

However, he has also expressed his disappointment at the news that Louth County Council has put construction of the Narrow Water Bridge on hold because construction companies are looking for more money than is available.

The Louth TD said: "Everyone accepts that the Narrow Water Bridge project is a vital infrastructure project for the Louth/south Down and South Armagh region.

"It has the potential of significantly boosting economic activity and of creating jobs.

"I would urge the government and the Executive to meet with Louth County Council and other stakeholders, including the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) and British government to see what additional funding can be drawn down to complete this vitally important project."
