Plans to regenerate the Corrody Park area of the Top of the Hill took a step forward with the recent appointment of specialist design teams locally based RPP Architects will develop the Community Centre and the area Masterplan will be developed by Landscape Architects MWA Partnership Ltd.
The scheme, which is being initiated by L'Derry City Council, in conjunction with the Top of the Hill Community Forum, marks the beginning of a process that will map out a vision for the site that meets the needs of the local community. Whilst at an early stage, it is hoped that the master-planning and design processes will put forward proposals to upgrade the park, provide new sporting facilities, a new community centre, play area and an element of social housing. A steering group has recently been established comprising of a number of key stakeholders including L'Derry City Council, TOTH Community Forum, DSD, NIHE and DOE Planning Service. Now that the consultants have been appointed, the initial processes will be to prepare outline designs that will form part of an extensive community consultation process to be coordinated by the TOTH Community Forum.
In addition to this, plans are currently being finalized to demolish the existing community centre in mid April. The Centre was closed in April 2012 due to health & safety issues and has been deemed unusable for any future uses.
During the Masterplan process, the steering group will be working to identify and secure funding opportunities that will be key to the delivery of the developed plans.
