NIE Issues Safety Warning

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), the network company, has issued a safety warning after three electricity poles were deliberately cut down over the weekend in the Aghyoule area of Fermanagh.

Kevin McDowell, Head of Health, Safety and Environment at NIE, said: "Deliberate damage to NIE equipment is extremely dangerous. The poles that were cut carried live electricity wires. The vandals involved could have been seriously injured, or indeed killed. I cannot emphasise enough the risks involved in deliberately damaging NIE's electricity equipment. This practice is disruptive and time consuming to repair but most importantly results in extreme danger for the local community. NIE reacted quickly to make the area safe, however, if this potentially lethal activity persists, it is only a matter of time before someone gets severely injured or killed."


The PSNI has been informed of the incident and NIE will be working closely with them to identify and prosecute those responsible.
