Work To Start On New Science Park

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has welcomed the news that work on the North West Regional Science Park at the Fort George site in Derry is expected to get underway within weeks.

Mr Durkan said: "I am delighted that work on this key regional project is to start within a matter of weeks.

"Many have been frustrated by the lack of active development at the strategic Fort George site and the factors in such delay.

"However, we should all now be giving every encouragement to the various stakeholders involved (including the North West Cross Border Group, Ilex and the Special EU Programmes Body) in order to bring this landmark project to fruition.


"This partnership development still has some way to go in terms of implementation but the progress now being made is a welcome delivery indicator for one of the key planks of the One Plan.

"I want to acknowledge the good work of the Northern Ireland Science Park in taking this proposal forward. On an Assembly Committee visit to the Science Park in the Titanic Quarter in 2008 which I led as Chairman, the Science Park management declared their enthusiasm for building in Derry too. With good endeavour by others and themselves they are making good on that commitment. I continue to support the Science Park in efforts in London to enhance their funding base for the future."
