Tim Gould, Senior Energy Analyst with the International Energy Agency is due to address a conference taking place in Chartered Accountants House, Dublin on Wednesday 17th October. The conference ‘Oil and gas: Ireland’s energy opportunity’ will look to the future prospects for Ireland’s oil and gas industries and the role they will play in meeting the country’s energy needs. Gould, who works alongside IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol, will speak about the recent IEA report ‘Golden Rules for a Golden Age of Gas’ which addresses the social and environmental impacts associated with exploiting the world’s vast resources of unconventional gas, which, according to the Agency, holds the key to a golden age of gas.

The report concludes that governments, industry and other stakeholders must work together to address legitimate public concerns surrounding exploration of unconventional gas.
This will be of particular industry to an Irish audience in the context of the significant finds of shale gas confirmed by Tamboran Resources in the North West Carboniferous Basin in counties Leitrim and Fermanagh.
