Belfast based architectural façade specialist Spanwall, has provided the louvers and doors on the huge offshore wind farm substations designed and built jointly by Siemens and Harland & Wolff which are being floated out to Gwynt y Môr wind farm off the North Wales coast.
Manufactured in Spanwall's advanced factory at Carryduff, the specialist louvers are made from high grade marine stainless steel. Each complex unit is 5 metres by 2 metres with spaces of only 13 mm between each blade.
H&W’s Mr Godfrey Thompson said: "We were delighted to find a company on our doorstep with the expertise and capability to fulfil the contract for these important components on these groundbreaking structures."
Spanwall Sales Director Philip West said: "Having worked closely with Harland & Wolff, we designed louvers and doors that fulfilled their requirements for this demanding project which is located in the Irish Sea. This is another area where the expertise of Spanwall staff has been called upon to assist in designing a product to meet the specific needs of our customer."
This project comes on the back of having completed the stunning façade panels and custom-rusted foyer panels for Titanic Belfast and a string of prestigious contract wins including the Causeway Visitor Centre, two Audi showrooms in England, the Terremark Data Centre near Schipol in Amsterdam, and several projects in London including, Paddington Station, Hackney Marsh, Borough Viaduct, Canada Water and New Feather Lane. Spanwall has also won several projects in the Republic of Ireland including Citigate in Cork and Blanchardstown shopping centre.
