He said: "The Luas Broombridge line will run from the Green Line's St Stephen's Green stop in Dublin city centre to Broombridge via O'Connell Street, where the Red Line runs. This represents a very significant milestone in the creation of a high quality, integrated public transport network for Dublin.

"The Luas Red and Green lines will finally be connected and interchange with the Maynooth Line will be provided at Broombridge. The new line will also run past the new DIT campus site at Grangegorman, which was also recently granted planning permission.
"Both these projects are a vital part of a stimulus package the Government has approved that is worth €2bn. It is expected that the construction of the Luas line will generate 800 jobs. The cost of the project is forecast to total €370 million and passenger services are expected to commence in 2017."
