Major Resurfacing Scheme To Begin On The Donegall Road

A major resurfacing scheme on the Donegall Road, Belfast is due to commence on Monday 13 August 2012.

The scheme between Broadway Roundabout and Thalia Street is being undertaken to improve the safety and strength of the road and is expected to take five weeks to complete.

In order to provide a safe working environment and ensure the quality of the scheme it will be necessary to close the Donegall Road (between Donegall Avenue and Broadway Roundabout) in one direction, to traffic travelling country-bound towards Broadway Roundabout, and also to ban all turning movements in this direction from any of the side streets. This closure will remain in place 24 hours a day. City-bound traffic will be accommodated on the Donegall Road, with a country-bound diversion in place via Sandy Row, Lisburn Road, Tate’s Avenue and Glenmachan Street.

Coupled with this closure it will be necessary to ban parking along the Donegall Road so that traffic travelling in the city-bound direction from Broadway Roundabout is not obstructed.

In order to enable the final carriageway surface to be laid, full closures of the Donegall Road will be required on two Sundays at the end of the works. The dates of these closures will be dependent on the progress of the scheme and details will be advertised on the Roads Service website (www.trafficwatchni.comexternal link) when the dates are confirmed.

The above planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions and hence may be subject to change. In that event further notice will be provided.

Whilst Roads Service has carefully planned these road works and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, motorists should be aware that delays are expected and additional time should be allowed when planning a journey.
