The underground natural gas network throughout Greater Belfast remains one of the most modern of its kind in the world, built using the latest and most innovative engineering technologies. In recognition of its world-class expertise Phoenix has previously attracted similar delegations from countries as far afield as India, Brazil, Argentina, China and Israel.

Phoenix began its construction in 1996 and after a private investment of around £500 million today its network is over 3,100 kilometres long and passes over 290,000 properties. Over 50% of these properties that have gas available to them have already taken the decision to connect to the network.
Joanne Quinn, Transportation Services Manager at Phoenix Natural Gas, commented: "We were delighted to welcome our Serbian visitors and to hear their enthusiasm for growing the Serbian gas network. They were particularly interested in how Phoenix Natural Gas as a gas network operator has implemented the systems necessary to successfully deliver gas supply competition over the past few years".
There are currently four active gas suppliers using Phoenix’s network to supply household and business customers. The suppliers compete across different sectors, with Airtricity and Firmus competing in both the domestic and commercial markets, whilst Energia and Vayu currently only compete in the commercial sector.
