Minister Seeks Views On EPCs

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson is seeking views on proposals to implement a European Union Directive which requires, among other things, that more public buildings should display Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

This is a revised European Directive – the first one was implemented in 2008 - aimed at further improving the energy performance of buildings. It will require amending the current Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 to ensure compliance with its obligations.


Mr Wilson said: "The Executive has agreed to consult on proposals to implement revisions to the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

"There are a number of proposed revisions, two of which are likely to have the most impact - requiring the energy rating of a building to be included on property marketing material and requiring more public buildings to display certificates. These proposals will result in some additional costs being incurred.

"I would therefore welcome views from the public, professional and commercial sectors in response to this consultation to help formulate the final outcome on the proposed implementation of this Directive."

The consultation exercise runs until Friday 12 October 2012.
