ESB Electric Ireland and the GAA have announced the launch of 'On Home Ground', the Tralee pilot for a new sustainability jobs initiative.
The joint initiative aims to stimulate the creation of 10,000 jobs in the green sector, supporting job creation in local communities in a way that promotes direct economic, social and environmental benefits. An estimated 14,456 private households in Tralee can avail of the Pilot.
'On Home Ground' encourages the local community in Tralee, to carry out energy efficiency works with ESB Electric Ireland's Home Services Team to improve comfort levels in their homes and lower their future heating bills. Kerry based TLI Group have been secured to carry out installations for the pilot scheme. As well as the potential for job creation the scheme also delivers value to householders by encouraging communities to come together to create clusters to avail of volume discounts.
Speaking at the launch of 'On Home Ground', at the Kerins O'Rahilly's GAA Club in Tralee, Peter McKenna, Stadium and GAA Commercial Director commented: "The Sustainability 10k Initiative is an exciting and innovative project which aims to stimulate the creation of jobs in the green sector. The area of sustainability is one which can really help to stimulate Ireland’s economic recovery. Critical to that recovery is the creation of sustainable employment and we believe there are huge opportunities in this area and that the GAA can play a key role through our club network. We, along with Kerins O'Rahillys GAA Club, are delighted to be working with the ESB Electric Ireland on this pilot and hope that the community in Tralee will participate in the pilot and engage local contractors to carry out energy upgrade works.
"The services available through ESB Electric Ireland's Home Services Team are focused on increasing comfort levels and making the home more energy efficient at a competitive price and include; attic insulation, wall insulation, high efficiency boiler and heating controls, solar thermal systems. Each of the Home Service Offerings included in the scheme is available at an additional 10% discount to the Tralee cluster group and may qualify for SEAI grants, which can help to make the work even more affordable."
