Tenders have been returned and are currently being assessed for the appointment of a contractor to undertake work on a development at Bon Secours Hospital in Cork City.
A main contractor is expected to be appointed in November 2011 and work is predicted to commence in the first quarter of 2012.
Designed by Dublin-based architects, O'Connell Mahon, the project will consist of a proposed extension to the north of the existing Bon Secours Hospital.
According to the plans hospital accommodation on five floors plus plant level over 4 levels of car parking structure will be created by the extension.
The car parking structure includes 399 car parking spaces, consisting of 58 spaces at basement level and 341 spaces on split levels above ground level.
Enclosed link connections from the proposed extension to the existing hospital will also be tackled during the work.
Meanwhile the proposal will also include upgrading of existing surface car park on south bank of River Lee to contain 52 parking spaces, proposed renewal of temporary planning permission as surface car park (185 parking spaces); proposed realignment and landscaping of entrance fore court at College Road including omission of two vehicular entrance/exits and enlargement of two existing vehicular entrance/exits and proposed left turn only vehicular exit at existing Western Road exit.
All associated site and landscaping works are included in the project. A full design team has been engaged.
The development will measure 25,914 sq.m. and will be located on a 315 hectare site. Work on the project is expected to be complete by Q4 2013.
