Housing Minister 'Marks' Ards Home Opening

A new £2.2m housing scheme for active older people, St Mark's Court, has been officially opened in Newtownards.

Soon after the builders moved off site the residents moved in and now the NI Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has highlighted the scheme's completion by officially opening the St Mark's Court development of 20 two-bedroom apartments, off Church Street.

The project was successfully developed by Trinity Housing in response to a growing waiting list for this type of more easily managed accommodation.

The apartments have been designed to incorporate the recommendations of the police, ensuring that residents feel safe and secure.

In addition, they have also been built to high-energy efficiency specifications.

DUP Minister McCausland said: "The importance of good housing in people's lives cannot be underestimated. Trinity Housing is to be congratulated for providing these much needed apartments, designed specifically for older people, in an area that continues to have a high housing need.

"My priority is to make a real difference to the lives of those who suffer from poor or no housing. This development showcases all that is best in delivering good quality, well-designed housing. My Department will continue to provide funding for more of the same."

Ian Kirkpatrick, Chairman of Trinity Housing said: "Trinity Housing and the tenants of St Mark's Court are delighted to welcome the Minister to celebrate another successful housing scheme in Newtownards."
