Pod -Apartments Come To NI

In an attempt to revive the struggling housing market pod-style apartments have come to Northern Ireland.

According to The Belfast Telegraph the 'Never Monday' project at Montgomery Street in Belfast’s city centre has been revealed.

Small, single spaced homes, which combine a living room, kitchen and bedroom with some, shared facilities, is the concept tackled by the project.

According to the Belfast paper the innovative complex comprises 48 apartments starting from just under £80k - each fully furnished and decked out with all the modern technological accoutrements a city centre worker could require.

The idea has been around for some time with similarly designed 'Lux Pods' appearing across central London in the last year.

While pod style living will not suit everyone it is hoped that the development will go some way in giving a boost to Northern Ireland’s failing property market.

The average price of a house in Northern Ireland is currently over £160,000 and with traditionally sized Belfast apartments approaching £150,000, this uber-modern way of living could be a perfect solution for young 20-somethings looking for their first home, reported The Belfast Telegraph.

Despite this the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveryors (RICS) has spoken out against such housing calling them "shameful shoebox homes".

Yet anyone still wanting to check out the compact housing can see a full scale "pop-up pod" replica situated at Victoria House in Gloucester Street.
