Construction work is expected to commence next week, week beginning the 22nd of August on the construction of a new school for Benekerry National School in County Carlow.
The overall project consists of the part demolition of the existing school and change of use of 450 sq.m. of the existing school to a new parish centre, with the construction of new entrance lobby and boiler room to this.
The new school, designed by Kilkenny-based, Dalton & O’Donnell comprises the construction of a new two-storey school measuring 2,311 sq.m. (gross floor area) with 16 classrooms, administration offices, general purpose hall and other ancillary accommodation minor alterations to existing main entrance and construction of new access roadway and staff car park, construction of a new junior, play area of 430 sq.m. and two ball-courts with protective netting measuring 1,170 sq.m., the construction of a new 1.5 m. high block along southern and eastern boundaries, construction of a new foul sewer from the school, laid in the public road to connect to Kernanstown Housing Estate septic tank treatment system, connection of a new stormwater system into the tributary of the Burren River to the east of the school and new connection to local authority water main in the road to the front of the school, together with all associated site and ancillary works.
Glenman Corporation have been appointed as the main contractor for the project, which is expected to take in the region of 10 months to complete.
The development will measure 2,311 sq.m. and will be located on a 1.44 hectare site.
