Tidal Energy Company Announces Jobs Expansion

OpenHydro, an Irish energy technology company, whose business is the design and manufacture of marine turbines for generating renewable energy from tidal streams has announced plans to recruit a number of additional positions over the next 12 – 18 months.

This latest recruitment drive by OpenHydro to attract up to 20 new employees coincides with the company’s immediate plans to scale up production of its tidal turbines to meet growing global demand for its technology. OpenHydro currently has a workforce of around 50 permanent employees mostly located at the company’s Technical Centre in Greenore, Co. Louth.

The new positions that OpenHydro is looking to fill are primarily in engineering and operations, to include; project engineers and managers, manufacturing engineers, as well as specialist finite element and structural engineers. The company is also looking for engineering graduates who will have the opportunity to start and develop their careers with OpenHydro.

Announcing OpenHydro’s recruitment plans, James Ives, chief executive of OpenHydro said: “OpenHydro is entering a further exciting phase of growth as we position ourselves to supply tidal turbines to projects in the France, Canada, USA, Ireland, and the UK. Now is our time for expansion.”

He went on to say: “While we have cutting-edge technology, we believe that our people are our most valuable asset and we are determined to reward and invest in them.”

OpenHydro has a project portfolio spanning the USA, Canada, France, Scotland and the UK’s Channel Islands with utility partners including Bord Gáis, EDF, Nova Scotia Power, SSE Renewables and SnoPUD. OpenHydro has won a number of awards for its innovations in the field of renewable energy technology.
