ESB Re-branding 'A Waste Of Money'

The decision to re-brand ESB Customer Supply and ESB Independent Energy as 'Electric Ireland' at a cost of between €5 million and €6 million is a total waste of money, with the cost inevitably being passed on to both domestic and business users in the form of higher bills, according to Fine Gael Communications & Energy Spokesman, Leo Varadkar TD.


Mr Varaadkar said: "This decision has been forced on the ESB by the Commission for Energy Regulation.

"Ireland's regulatory rules are driving up energy prices when they should be driving them down. Businesses are struggling and consumers are suffering. One of the best ways we can help them is by reducing the cost of their electricity bills. We need a total change in the regulatory system which puts the interest of consumers first and not the interests of the energy companies whether they be semi-States or private sector.

"The rebranding decision will see businesses and consumers face higher bills as the cost is passed onto them."
