Attwood Looks To The Future For Ballynahinch

Social Development Minister Alex Attwood has visited Ballynahinch to see at first hand the potential that exists for public realm improvements throughout the town centre.

As part of his visit, Minister Attwood went on a tour of Ballynahinch where he listened to the views of the local MLAs and councillors.

They spoke to him about their proposals for the visual improvement of the town centre and their hopes of bringing about social, environmental and economic benefits for those who live, work, and seek to invest in Ballynahinch.

Minister Attwood said: "It is good to be here today to see at first hand the regeneration opportunities for Ballynahinch town centre. It has been interesting to hear Down District Council's vision for Ballynahinch.

"My officials will be meeting with the council to discuss these proposals in more detail. Investing in town centres, particularly in this challenging economic climate is vital because it will help to improve the vitality and economic regeneration of town's such as Ballynahinch.

"This is a point that I have been stressing to my colleagues in the Executive – pound for pound across government funding urban regeneration makes sense, helps business, creates footfall and builds jobs. In the forthcoming budget negotiations it is essential that the Executive hears loud and clear this message. Ballynahinch and all other towns with plans for the future can help convey that message and convince the Executive how best to spend its Budget."
