A major road improvement scheme in Co Tyrone is progressing well, according to Roads Service.
The A29 Cookstown Road at Carland Bridge is scheduled to open to traffic later this year, according to a recent report in the Tyrone Courier.
To date the works have been progressing on the 1.85kms length of new carriageway using temporary traffic control, which has had a minimal effect on motorists using the existing road network.
However, two road closures will now be required over a total period of four weeks commencing on Monday 10th May.
The first road closure will be on the Tullycullion Road, from its junction with the existing A29 for a distance of 250m in a westerly direction towards the B43 Mullaghmore Road. This closure will run until Monday 24th May.
A signed diversion route will be in place whereby traffic will be diverted via A29 Cookstown Road, Carland Road, Thomas Street Roundabout, Quarry Lane, Mullaghmore Road and Tullycullion Road, and vice versa.
Following the opening of the Tullycullion Road, a second road closure will be implemented on the main A29 Cookstown Road, stretching from its junction with the C636 Tullycullion Road to its junction with the C638 Coalpit Road. This closure will run from Monday 24th May to Monday 7th June. A similar diversion route will be in place.
During the A29 Cookstown Road closure, a temporary 7.5t weight restriction will be in operation on the C637 Tullydraw Road. Speed limits throughout the construction site will also be revised.
With the opening of the A29 carriageway on Monday 7th June, the new realigned road will be operational from the Gables Restaurant to Hazelton's Corner. The revised Creevagh Road and Tullycullion Road junctions with the new road will also be completed.
