Concrete Success For Co Antrim Firm

A local construction business has been celebrating a successful initiative to reduce costs and increase profits.

Most of the savings achieved by Ballymena's Moore Concrete to date have been through improving working practices on the factory floor as well as to evaluate and implement necessary changes to key operational areas, increasing the effectiveness of equipment and generating new products for export markets.

Savings from other areas will roll out over time and increase the total achieved from the programme.

Invest Northern Ireland has helped Ballymena-based, Moore Concrete Products Ltd to save over £320,000 through a programme of efficiency measures.

Moore Concrete Products Ltd supplies a range of precast products for the agricultural, civil engineering and building market sectors.

The products produced range from livestock feed panels, paving slabs and chimney flues to structural units for bridges and retaining wall systems.

Niall Casey, Invest NI's Director of Business Improvement Services, said: "Moore Concrete has already far exceeded the savings target it set before commencing this programme of change which is particularly commendable during these challenging economic conditions for the construction sector.

"It now has the potential to realise long term growth by moving into higher value added products and export markets and will benefit from having embedded a culture of continuous improvement in the company," he said.

Wilbert Moore, Managing Director of Moore Concrete Products commented: "This programme of efficiency measures delivered with Invest NI support has been a resounding success.

"We've been able to make a series of improvements to our operations that will bring long term benefit to the company, ensure that we maximise our profitability and help us attain our vision to become the best supplier of precast concrete products in Northern Ireland."
