Possible Inquiry Into A55 Works

A public inquiry could be held into Roads Service plans to develop Belfast's Knock Road, the Stormont Transport Minister has said.

Conor Murphy said preliminary works relating to the A55 scheme are progressing well.

Roads Service has already published an Environmental Statement, draft Direction Order and Notice of Intention to make a Vesting Order.


Mr Murphy commented on a two day public information event held recently.

"This was very well attended and depending on the outcome of the consultation," he said.

"The department may decide to hold a public inquiry to allow a decision to be made on implementation of the scheme."

Roads Service has earmarked £3.4m for investment in the Castlereagh area this year.

Other works recently completed in the borough include street lighting at Belvoir Road, resurfacing on the Saintfield Road, Carryduff and collision remedial work on the Ballygowan Road near Roselawn Cemetry.
