Pitches Upgrade Boosts Soccer - And Builders

Football pitches in Armagh have been upgraded - creating much needed work for the local construction trade.

Works entailed the improvement of access and egress to the grounds, the provision of quality fencing, new first aid facilities and the supply of purpose built dugouts.

The scheme was funded in partnership with local Intermediate football clubs and with the assistance of substantial grant aid from the Irish Football Association (IFA) Association through the UEFA HatTrick Assistance Programme, plus a financial contribution from the Council.

This work coupled with a considerable programme of grounds maintenance has ensured the grounds now meet the required standards for Intermediate football.

Ryan McCarter from Lisanally Rangers Football Club said: "We are delighted with the work completed at the Kingston Memorial Playing Fields to bring it up to IFA Intermediate standards.

"This work would not have been possible with out the kind provision of the IFA grant and the co-operation and financial support of Armagh City and District Council."

Richhill FC spokesman Neil Megaw commented: "The process of maintaining Intermediate football for Richhill Football Club involved close collaboration with Armagh City and District Council and the IFA.

"Initial meetings took place three years ago but despite this lengthy timescale the project was certainly worth the wait as we now enjoy the fantastic facilities available.

"On behalf of Richhill Football Club, I wish to thank Armagh City and District Council for their funding and co-operation throughout and also the IFA for their grant towards meeting the costs – the support of both parties ensures that the Club can continue to compete at intermediate level," he said.

These upgrades have ensured the long term future of Intermediate football in the Armagh City and District Area and have also greatly enhanced the playing environments for youth teams and all other local teams who use the facilities.
