£2.5m Community Hub Plans Progressing

A new £2.5m community hub for Brownlow is progressing further, Craigavon council has said.

The council has now applied for planning permission, following the latest round of public consultation.

Craigavon councillors recently heard how the current plans for the centre were presented to community representatives at a public meeting, where the architect gave an overview of proposals.

This included timescales, exact location of the centre alongside Craigavon Leisure Centre, room layout and overall concept.

Guests had the opportunity to ask officers questions regarding storage within the rooms, access, pre-school play group provision and the costings of the facility.

"It was good to see the local community engaging with the council regarding the community hub," said Chairman of Development Committee, Alderman Sydney Anderson, "and for council to be able to clarify some of their concerns".

"Now that we have a design concept we will be able to apply for planning permission which we hope will be forthcoming."

He continued: "This is a fantastic venue for the Brownlow area which will cater for the needs of the local community for the next twenty-five years."

Accommodation in the new community hub includes a multipurpose hall, dedicated child care space for 26 preschool children and further space for after schools provision.

The building also includes smaller multipurpose rooms which can be used for events, meetings, training and consultations. In addition, it is anticipated a hot-desking facility will be available for local community groups.
