“New collection service for plasterboard waste secures fast growth for recycler” - Derek Browne of Gypsum Recycling Ireland Ltd. Explains how the collection and processing of plasterboard waste in Northern Ireland has added to the growing European volumes for the worlds largest Plasterboard Recycler.
Gypsum recycling Ireland Ltd (The Irish subsidiary of Danish based Gypsum Recycling International A/S Group is rolling out a collection service for plasterboard waste in Northern Ireland. The service is well proven in Continental Europe, where impressive recycling rates of up to 80% of available board have been achieved by the group, that launched commercial plasterboard recycling in Europe in 2001. The recycled plasterboard waste goes back into the gypsum consuming industry as an alternative to virgin raw materials.
Derek Browne, Director of Gypsum Recycling Ireland explains: “ The service is based on the usage of purpose built containers and local storage points, so that bulky , light waste is not transported over long distances to be recycled. All of the material collected in Northern Ireland will be processed in Northern Ireland, with the final product being delivered from the local facilities. We are working closely with strategic partners in Northern Ireland to offer a solution to the problem of how to dispose of plasterboard waste in the most environmentally friendly way, To date the response has been fantastic and Northern Ireland will prove to be a great market for us to be involved with in the long term. The fact that we can handle both new build and demolition/refurbishment waste means that we have a solution for all sectors in the marketplace. ”
Gypsum Recycling Ireland Ltd, with it’s facility at Rathcoffey, Kildare has been operating since 2005, and are rolling out the collection service in conjunction with the change in legislation from Apr 1st which effectively bans the sending of plasterboard waste to landfill. Gypsum Recycling apply their mobile technology to the recycling process to ensure that the highest possible recovery rates are achieved.
