€1.7m Longford Mains Scheme Progressed

Longford County Council has appointed ShareRidge Ltd to carry out mains rehabilitation works under its water conservation programme.

The €1.73m works have been approved for funding under his Department of Environment's Water Services Investment Programme 2007-2009.

The approved project involves the replacement of defective water mains in Longford town and along the Ballinalee Road, where repair of the mains has proven to be uneconomic due to the age and condition of the pipes.


"These works are necessary to improve the water supply to the town and to reduce water loss through leakage," Environment Minister John Gormley said.

"When complete, the works will ensure that the Longford town water networks will meet current demand and ensure that all consumers have a continuous water supply at a satisfactory flow, pressure and quality."

He continued: "This phase of works is part of an ongoing programme by Longford County Council to improve the operation of their water supply and distribution networks in the County."

Longford County Council can now complete the contract formalities with the successful tenderer with a view to getting the mains rehabilitation works underway at the earliest possible date, the minister added.
