A leading construction firm, PJ Hegarty and Sons has been awarded the contract to design and build the new Phibblestown schools campus in Dublin.
An application for planning permission has been lodged and work is expected to begin by the summer.
County Dublin Vocational Education Committee (VEC) has been worked closely with Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend, who have been providing project management, quantity surveying and employer’s representative services, to progress the project to contract award stage.
The Phibblestown schools project is one of the first education projects to be procured using the Public Works Contracts for Building Works Designed by the Contractor.
When complete in Autumn 2010 the eight acre campus will provide a 24 classroom primary school and 1000 pupil post primary school complete with Special Needs Units to both Schools.
Following a unique partnership arrangement between County Dublin VEC and Fingal County Council, the campus will also contain amenities such as all weather playing facilities and enhanced community facilities and will be available to the wider Phibblestown community.
PJ Hegarty and Sons Design Team includes Newenham Mulligan and Associates Architects (NMA) and DBFL Consulting Engineers.
Pat O'Connor, Chief Executive Officer of County Dublin VEC, said: "Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend has been instrumental in bringing the project to its current stage. We are now confident that we can provide over 1600 pupil spaces to the people of Phibblestown and the wider area by Autumn 2010."
Mark Kelly, Managing Director of Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend said: "The Dublin 15 area has experienced a vast increase in population over the last number of years.
"We are delighted to be working closely with County Dublin VEC, Fingal County Council and PJ Hegarty & Sons to deliver a facility that will serve Phibblestown and the wider Dublin 15 area for many years to come."
