Concerns Over Seatown Road Development Activity

Opposition has been voiced against substantial development proposals in Fingal, which locals say will bring too much activity to the area.

Plans have been put forward for a new courthouse, police station and parish centre on the Seatown Road.

The area is close to Main Street and North Street, which is also nearby to Mantua Park, where a new Metro station has been proposed.

All of the developments are in close proximity to several schools, council car parks, two housing estates and a special needs centre.


St Colmcilles Boys NS principal, Jim Bennett, said: "I can see it bringing an awful lot of activity down to one end of the town. It's all happening along the same line.

"The Metro, garda station and courthouse, a potential parish centre - you can see a very serious increase in traffic volume and footfall in a very confined space," said Mr Bennett.

Talks have already been held between the county council and the Office of Public Works over the potential purchase of a staff car park, where the proposed justice buildings would be constructed.

St Colmcille's parish have unveiled plans for a new €3m centre on the site of the old parochial house.

Local residents, who face traffic gridlock on a daily basis, have also expressed concerns.

"Seatown Road is very busy - that's going to make the situation even worse," resident Marie Corr said.
