Concrete Firm Fined For H&S Breaches

An Ulster concrete flooring firm has been fined at court for breaching Health and Safety regulations.

Representative for Concrete Flooring Systems Ltd appeared before Dungannon Magistrates Court on 9 February 2009, facing two charges of code breaches.

The action was brought by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland and resulted in a £2,000 fined.

The court found Concrete Flooring Systems Ltd failed to provide adequate measures to prevent employees falling while they were working at height during the construction of a residential nursing home in Co Tyrone last January.


Workers had been installing concrete floor slabs on first floor level on the building when an inspector from HSENI deemed the method of work to be unsafe.

A prohibition notice was immediately served to ensure that Concrete Flooring Systems Ltd took adequate measures to ensure the safety of their employees before work was allowed to continue.

A spokesman for HSENI reminded companies of the need to ensure that personnel are properly trained, that work is properly planned and that adequate measures are taken to prevent falls from height, in order to prevent tragic work-related injuries and deaths.
