Ballyfermot Housing Developments Opened

Two housing developments, designed to accommodate older people in Ballyfermot, have been officially opened by Dublin's Lord Mayor.

Eibhlin Byrne welcomed the €20m schemes, located at Claddagh Green, which consist of 79 dwellings comprising one and two bedroom homes.

The houses are fully fitted out with all modern conveniences to equal any private development, and residents also have access to a new community facility on site.

Lord Mayor Byrne said: "This development represents Dublin City Council's commitment to high quality accommodation for our senior citizens. I hope that Claddagh Green will provide a safe, comfortable and happy home for all our residents."

Claddagh Green development was built by Laing O'Rourke Construction and designed by Dublin City Council's Architects Department and Crean Salley Architects at a cost of €20.8m.

Funding was provided by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government.

The 79 dwellings form part of a larger development at Claddagh Green, which also involved the construction of 13 family homes and a youth club.
