Euroclad Used At £160m Waste Plant

Construction News Image
A new state-of-the-art 'Energy from Waste' plant in Colnbrook, Slough, has benefited from 9,200m2 of Euroclad's standing seam roofing system.

The Energy from Waste plant, a joint venture between Grundon Waste Management and Viridor Waste Management, is the major part of a larger £160m redevelopment of an existing waste processing facility.

Euroseam sheets were rolled on-site to create the distinctive arched roof on the eye-catching landmark building.

The plant, which is being delivered in conjunction with contractor BAM Nuttall will be able to incinerate 400,000 tonnes of waste per annum and generate 38 mega watts of energy for the national grid, equivalent to the requirements of a town the size of Aylesbury.

The plant also includes a Materials Recovery Facility which will be able to process 40,000 tonnes of recyclables from domestic and industrial sources.

The stucco embossed aluminium Euroseam roof features self-curved sheets which are separated by gutters. Euroseam sheets are usually supplied in 0.9mm aluminium and can be used to achieve a wide range of convex, concave and multiform curves.

Lightweight and versatile, Euroclad standing seam systems reduce the risk of water ingression as there are no penetrations of the outer sheet.

Speaking about the project, Jon Dore at Euroclad said: "Modern energy production technologies such as the Energy from Waste plant are an important part of society's increasing evolution towards a sustainable future.

"The environmental impact of Aluminium has been greatly reduced over the last century, with over a third of current global aluminium production being from recycled material.

"This, along with Euroclad's dedicated environmental management system makes Euroseam the perfect choice for a project such as this."

Euroclad's Standing Seam roof profile can form part of Euroclad Elite Systems. Elite Systems provide a package of components from leading manufacturers which combine to form guaranteed roof and wall systems with defined performance.
