€800m Ballymun Scheme Given Go-Ahead

The green light has been given to a €800m regeneration scheme in North Dublin.

Expected to generate hundreds of much-needed construction jobs, the Spring Cross development in Ballymun Town Centre will be undertaken by Treasury Holdings.

Building work is expected to start next year, with completion scheduled for 2012.

Treasury Director Niall Kavanagh said: "This is an attractive development and there has been strong retailer interest, even before we secured planning permission.

"This is due to the unique nature of the new town which will be home to 40,000 people when complete.


"There are a number of factors attracting interest including the developments strategic location in the heart of north Dublin, its accessibility to the airport and major motorways as well as the metro stop which will be integrated into the development."

Spring Cross will stretch over a 14.5 acre site, encompassing around 650,000 square feet will be designated for retail units, in addition to 100,000 square feet of leisure space and over 300,000 square feet of office premises.

The development will offer an 11-screen cinema, bowling alley, youth drop-in centre and a family entertainment complex.

Provisions for a 2,185 space car park have also be been made.

Three hundred and sixty seven apartments will be built on the site, ranging from one, two and three-bedroom abodes.
