TD Welcomes Clare Schools Investment

Construction News Image
Clare TD Tony Killeen has welcomed the Department of Education's decision to approve funding for small capital projects at five schools throughout County Clare.

Mr Killeen confirmed works will shortly commence on the respective projects at Inagh, Carron, Carrigaholt, Furglan and Clooney National Schools.

"I am delighted to be able to confirm the approval of grant aid for each of these important capital projects," said Mr Killeen.

He outlined the nature of the proposed works.

"Furglan N.S. will benefit from Sewerage Works; Carron N.S. has been approved additional funding for a wastewater treatment system and extra ground works; Clooney N.S. will benefit from new car parking facilities, a set down area and improved fire safety; and Carrigaholt N.S. has received funding to help finance renting costs during construction work on the existing building. Meanwhile, Inagh N.S. has been allocated additional funding for the upgrade of the roof and windows of the existing building."

Mr Killeen added: "The Building Unit of the Department of Education and Science will be in contact with the school authorities shortly in relation to the amount funding approved.

"The approval of funding for each of the projects is very positive news for the schools concerned as some had believed that the current economic downturn would have led to a subsequent decrease in government spending in this area. I wish the school authorities every success with their respective projects."
